Research Fellow - Instituto de Sistemas e Robótica - Coimbra (ISR-UC)
Nicoli Leal (MSc) is a Research Fellow at the Institute of Systems and Robotics (ISR), University of Coimbra, working in the field of brain–computer interfaces (BCIs). She holds a Master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, specializing in Robotics, Control, and Artificial Intelligence, and a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering – Bioelectronics. Her research focuses on EEG-based neural signal processing, deep learning, and explainable artificial intelligence for the assessment of consciousness and the development of communication systems for individuals with severe motor impairments. Her experience working with biomedical signals, particularly EEG, combined with a strong background in machine learning, provides her with a unique perspective on modeling complex neural data. She has experience across the full research pipeline, including experimental design, data acquisition in clinical and real-world settings, and data analysis.
