The ControlRev Project aims to develop advanced systems for carpet tufting and finishing. The proposed system improves the current state of the art by the real-time estimation of the carpet distortion based on information gathered by active vision sensors. The sensed information is fed back into the stretching system, containing adjustable rollers that can be used to selectively compensate the observed distortions. The ControlRev project also acts in the carpet finishing process, detecting sudden discontinuities that arise periodically in the junctions causing problems in the final cutting mechanism with negative consequences for the productivity and final quality. In this case, carpet height is continuously monitored by laser triangulation sensors whose information is fed back to a controller adjusting the height of the final cutting blades.
