BCI4ALL@ISR Team Wins 3rd Place at BR41N.IO Hackathon
27/04/2026
ISR is serving as the Host Institution of the BCI Spring School 2026, organized by g.tec, a major international event gathering thousands of remote participants over 10 days. In addition to many talks on brain-computer interfaces and neurotechnology, one of the initiatives was the BR41N.IO hackathon, which took place this past weekend.
Supported by the BCI4ALL R&D Project, funded by FCT under reference 2023.17977.ICDT (https://doi.org/10.54499/2023.17977.ICDT), the ISR HCMR lab participated with the BCI4ALL@ISR team, which achieved 3rd place in the "BCI PROGRAMMING PROJECTS" category, competing among 130 teams across different categories.
The team was composed of Luís Garrote, Aniana Cruz, Gonçalo Barros, Eduardo Borges, Manuel Abreu, Nicoli Leal, Sofia Rosa, and Rute Bettencourt, with support from João Perdiz. It brought together a multidisciplinary group of students and young researchers with expertise in brain-computer interfaces, machine learning, computer vision, and mobile robotics.
The programming project consisted of a dynamic P300-based BCI system allowing the selection of objects and individuals within a scene to guide a mobile robotic platform (simulating a wheelchair) towards target goals, including person tracking.
