
BEST PAPER AWARD @ IEEE ICARSC 2026

PhD student Afonso Elói Carvalho has received the “Best Paper Award” at the 26th IEEE International Conference on Autonomous Robot Systems and Competitions (ICARSC 2026) for the paper “Self-Supervised Learning for Energy-Efficient Traversability Prediction in Natural Terrain Using Proprioception”. Developed at ISR-UC and co-authored by Prof. David Portugal and Prof. Paulo Peixoto, the work was recognized for its innovative contribution to the area.
