David Portugal completed his Ph.D. degree in Robotics and Automation at the University of Coimbra in Portugal, in 2014. His main areas of expertise are robotics perception, robotic software, field robotics, multi-robot systems, and sensor fusion. David has previous international and national industry experience from 2014 to 2018 as Project and Technical Manager, and he has been a Senior Researcher at ISR since 2019 and an Assistant Professor at DEEC-UC since 2025. David has been involved in several local and EU-funded research projects in Robotics and Ambient Assisted Living, such as CHOPIN-FCT, TIRAMISU-FP7, SocialRobot-FP7-MSCA, CogniWin-AAL-JP, GrowMeUp-H2020, STOP-P2020, CORE-P2020, SEMFIRE-P2020, WoW-CMU-Portugal, 5GSmartFact-H2020-MSCA-ITN, TRUSTID-Erasmus+, PRR-Packaging of the Future, AIGreenBots-HORIZON-MSCA-DN, ForestSphere-FCT-DT4ST, and RUGGED-FCT-ICDT.
